Episode Two (2) of Move Your Mountains Podcast- Auditing and Implementing- Creating Clarity Around You Core Values and Personal Beliefs

Hi everyone. My name is Marlo Ramirez. Latina professional, mother, and entrepreneur. I am the host of the Move Your Mountains Podcast and the Creator and Owner of The Mustard Seed Project- A Career and Life Coaching Practice for the Modern Professional Latina Mom.

On today’s episode we are going to spend some time talking about auditing, specifically how to create clarity around your Personal Beliefs and Core Values and then I will talk you through 3 strategies you can implement to audit your personal beliefs and core values while you start on the journey of moving your mountains.

As Actor John Novack says, “A robust internal auditing program shows its presence both at the beginning and end of continual improvement projects. In the beginning, internal audits identify opportunities for improvement, at the end, internal audits provide a mechanism for monitoring the implemented improvement in order to sustain its benefits for the long term.”

Step 1. Create Clarity

To create clarity around your core values and personal beliefs you have to be willing to do some self examination. When you go on a journey, or travel somewhere new, you don’t take everything with you? Do you? No, that wouldn’t make sense and there wouldn’t be room for anything new. The same is true for your personal beliefs and core values. As we grow, we change, what we learned from our parents, the environment, our communities, our faith, it evolves. We come to question why we believe what we believe, and why we care about the things we care about.  This is an important step, and you should spend time thinking about where your personal beliefs and core values came from? How have they evolved? How have they influenced your decision-making process? and most importantly, do they represent who you are today, and what you stand for? Allow time for personal reflection and try not to get impatient with yourself as you examine and question.

Step 2: Create a List

Create a list of Core Values that resonate with you. Rank the top 10 core values that resonate most. Rate how your life is aligned with each value on a scale of 1-10. Determine if your career and life are aligned with each value using a scale of 1-10. Once you have completed the ranking look for values that you are not currently expressing in your life but would like to. If you find you are having trouble identifying your core values as yourself these questions.

  1. What are the most important things in my life?
  2. What experiences have made me feel truly alive and engaged?

Step 3: Audit and Implement

Once you have created your list you can audit and make changes as you see fit. Some questions to ask yourself as you audit.

  1. Did I find any surprises with my core values? If so, what were those surprises?
  2. Are my core values and beliefs aligned to the path I am on and where I am going?
  3. Do my values match my actions and choices? This can be in the form of how you spend money, help others, how you understand others, and your personal relationships, and the relationships with yourself

Summarize your areas you have identified as areas for growth, or those pesky mountains you need moving. If you are going to do the work to identify , don’t let it be for not. Take action and implement.

  1. What will you continue to believe?
  2. What will you stop do believing?
  3. What new beliefs and values will you develop along your journey?

Taking the time to audit your personal beliefs and values is hard work and can be uncomfortable at times. If you take the time to examine yourself you can learn so much about yourself,  and learn where you have areas to improve. I’m a firm believer that our, passion, and power come from our personal beliefs and core values. Being aligned to our true selves allow us to live out our purpose and move our mountains.
